We were treated to wonderful views of this immature Golden eagle yesterday. We watched from the kitchen as a huge bird flew over the bay and realised it was an eagle. The tide was out and there was someone collecting cockles from the rocks. The eagle flew over him before landing on the rocks surprisingly close to him. He did not seem aware of the eagle's presence.
I think it was warming up in the sun - it was a stunning day but cold. After about 5 minutes it moved to the other side of the bay where it had an a panoramic view of the headland and beach.
Luckily I managed to get a few pictures of it as some geese flew over. It dropped down over the water and it's wings seemed to skim the water as it flew low to avoid the gulls that were mobbing it. It landed at the waters edge and stayed for about 10 minutes before flying off over the machair.
A magical sight!
